In 2019 RISE hosted a family summer program called Magic Mondays. People of all ages gathered for art/crafts, science projects, exercise challenges, and parachute games. With Covid in 2020, it was not possible to gather, and we were aware that many children were isolated at home with few options. Camp in a Bag was the response.
Each week during the summer (10 weeks) there was a different theme. Every week included a fresh design challenge, a word salad/story challenge; 2 different mazes; an exercise to try; a science experiment; a craft project, a link to a Youtube story and a section to learn more. The variety of activities covered the age range from 3-90 years old and could be accomplished even if there was limited English language skills.
Once the activities involved a blow up beach ball (included); once it was a pack of UNO cards (included); once it was a some potting soil, seeds, pot and a journal (included).
The last week of the summer always includes distribution of school supplies.
From September- May there is a monthly Kid’s Kit that is exclusively a craft project with all the materials and instructions provided.
